The Craft in America Study Center tops off its series of exhibitions focusing on the intersection of contemporary craft and food culture with “Good Enough to Eat: Food as Medium for Craft,” which showcases art that is made of, or incorporates, edible substances.
In this age of food-centrism in popular culture, food is providing artists with endless inspiration thematically, physically and symbolically. The final portion of the three-part exhibition, on view through June 22, features not only professional artists who are boldly experimenting with new substances, but also master carvers from beyond the traditional confines of the art world who sculpt fruit, vegetable and dairy products into over-the-top showstoppers.
The Study Center is an extensive craft-focused library, a video footage archive and a gallery space, located at 8415 W. Third St., two blocks east of La Cienega. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, from noon to 6 p.m. Contact: (323) 951-0610.
