HAWKs—Hiking Adventures With Kids—LA is coming to Pacific Palisades, offering full week day camp to coincide with winter break January 2, 2024, to January 5, 2024.
Described as a curriculum-focused outdoor day camp and after-school program, HAWKs operates with a mission to instill a deep connection to the outdoors.
“A restorative and beautifully simple program, HAWKs was created as an investment in our children’s wellness as much as an investment in the future of our environment,” according to a press release, “as we head into winter and spring breaks when parents are looking for activities for their children.”
HAWKs has programming lined up for winter break, including hiking, herping, bird watching, journaling, nature crafts, foraging and more. A previous session took place December 18 to 22.
HAWKs operates out of different spaces across Los Angeles, “so each day is a new adventure.” Palisades-specific programming on the docket includes Will Rogers State Historic Park and Temescal Gateway Park. Outside of the Palisades, days will take place at Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area, Franklin Canyon Park and more.
“Research shows kids who play outside are happier, better at paying attention and less anxious than kids who spend more time indoors,” according to HAWKs. “Anxiety disorders in children have doubled since COVID-19, and HAWKs is on a mission to change this statistic.”
Locations currently include Northeast LA, West LA and Conejo Valley—with more to come soon.
