Nominees for the 75th annual Emmy Awards were revealed on Wednesday, July 12—and this year’s list features no shortage of ties to Pacific Palisades.
“Barry,” the creation of Marquez Knolls resident Bill Hader, which concluded its four-season run in May, has been nominated in the Outstanding Comedy Series category, alongside “Abbott Elementary,” “The Bear,” “Jury Duty,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Wednesday,” “Ted Lasso” and “Only Murders in the Building”—which stars longtime Palisadian and former Honorary Mayor Martin Short.
Short and Hader have been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, a category that also includes Jason Segel for “Shrinking,” Jason Sudeikis for “Ted Lasso” and Jeremy Allen White for “The Bear.”
Hader took home the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his titular role of Barry Berkman in both 2018 and 2019. He was nominated again in 2022, but the award went to Sudeikis for his role in “Ted Lasso.”
Hader is also nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for the “wow” episode of “Barry,” a category that also includes Christopher Storer, Amy Sherman-Palladino, Mary Lou Belli, Declan Lowney and Tim Burton. He is also nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for the same episode.
Two additional actors—Anthony Carrigan and Henry Winkler—have been nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category for their roles in “Barry.”

An episode of “Saturday Night Live” that was co-hosted by Short and Steve Martin has been nominated for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety Special or Series.
Late Palisadian Ray Liotta, who died at the age of 67 in 2022, has been nominated posthumously in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his role of Big Jim Keene in “Black Bird.” The category also includes Jesse Plemons, Joseph Lee, Murray Bartlett, Paul Walter Hauser, Richard Jenkins and Young Mazino.
“I am so grateful to the members of the Television Academy for honoring my dad with this nomination,” Liotta’s daughter Karsen wrote in a statement shared with various press outlets. “He was so incredibly proud of his performance in ‘Black Bird,’ and it would mean the world to him to be nominated alongside Taron [Egerton] and Paul [Walter Hauser].”
Though no tie to a Palisadian person was readily available, the fourth season of “Succession” highlighted the community when the Roy siblings temporarily resided in the Riviera’s San Onofre Estate, which last sold for $83 million in July 2021.
“‘Succession’ has made Emmy history with its three lead actors, Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin and Jeremy Strong, all earning nominations for lead actor in a drama—the most nods ever for a single show,” according to Variety.
The fourth and final season of the show earned 27 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Sarah Snook, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Alan Ruck, Alexander Skarsgård, Matthew Macfadyen and Nicholas Braun).
“The Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show Starring (Former Palisadian) Rihanna” was nominated for Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special, a category that also includes “Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter,” “Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl,” “The 65th Annual Grammy Awards” and “The Oscars.” Hamish Hamilton and Shawn Carter are also up for the Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special award for the Halftime Show, while Adam Blackstone and Omar Edwards have been nominated for Outstanding Music Direction.
The Emmy Awards ceremony is slated to air on Monday, September 18, beginning at 5 p.m. on Fox.
