Lois Irene Wightman

Lois Irene Wightman passed away June 14 at the age of 96.

Born to George and Florence Fowler on December 24, 1925, in Los Angeles, Lois was truly an LA native. She attended Woodrow Wilson High School where she graduated with honors. While in high school, Lois also led her high school fast pitch softball team as the starting pitcher to winning the state championship.

Lois met her future husband, George Wightman, at Balboa Beach where he worked as a lifeguard. While George was finishing mechanical engineering degree at USC, Lois worked as an executive secretary to support him.

The couple married in 1950, and shortly after, purchased a vacant lot overlooking the ocean in Pacific Palisades and built their dream home with their own hands. It was at this home they raised their two children: Lisa and John.

When George passed away in 1978, Lois moved to Georgia and spent the next several years devoting herself to golf. Lois was active in many golf clubs, including Costa Mesa, Laguna Woods and Rivermont Golf Club in Alpharetta, Georgia. It was at Rivermont that she made a hole in one. She even had the ball made into a plaque to commemorate the shot.

Lois was a lifelong member and volunteer secretary at Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Church. Lois was a lover of all things golf, yellow flowers, any Sinatra song, and her many friends and relatives. She was sparky and ever-young.

Lois relocated back to California in a Huntington Beach community when her first grandchild, Kristin, was born. She lived there until she relocated to Santa Rosa 10 years ago to be closer to her daughter and family.

Lois is preceded by her husband, George Wightman. She is survived by her children; Lisa (Ken) Palmer and John (Rena) Wightman, grandchildren; Kristin Tillack, Christina Ward, William Palmer and Jesse Palmer, and great-grandchildren; Jett Ward, Dax Ward, Emerson Tillack and Walker Tillack.

Private interment at Inglewood Park Cemetery.
