The Bay Club in Pacific Palisades—located at 17383 Sunset Blvd.—has announced it will be closing its doors after deciding not to renew its lease. The fitness center’s last day of operations will be Tuesday, May 31.
The space was acquired by Spectrum Clubs in 2003, then the Bay Club Company—a California-based active lifestyle corporation—announced on April 2, 2015, the acquisition of Spectrum Athletic Clubs, including the Spectrum Palisades gym.
Head of Operations for the Bay Club Company Morell Marean told the Palisadian-Post the Bay Club’s lease in the Palisades had expired a year ago amid the coronavirus pandemic, and they elected to extend their lease another year to pursue discussions with their landlord.
“We had tried to reach an agreement that would enable us to continue on, but ultimately we were not able to come to terms,” Marean said. “We are deeply committed to continuing to grow a network of clubs across Los Angeles and would welcome the opportunity to return to the Palisades if the right opportunity to do so were to present itself.
“We’re grateful to have formed countless friendships with members and their families throughout the Palisades and we hope to be able to continue serving as many of these members as possible.”
He said Palisades members who wish to, have the option to continue their membership at the newly renovated club at the Water Garden office complex in Santa Monica, six miles away, or any of the nearby clubs, including those in Redondo Beach, El Segundo and Manhattan Beach.
“Pacific Palisades members who wish to tour or try our other clubs in Los Angeles are encouraged to do so on a complimentary basis,” according to a letter sent to members on April 21.
In regards to business overall, Marean said the Bay Club is “bouncing back quite nicely” and approaching pre-pandemic volumes, but could not comment on active memberships at the Palisades location.
It was not clear what would be taking the space of the Bay Club at the time the Post went to print Tuesday evening.
