Playing the best it has all season, the Palisades High boys volleyball team won three of its five matches at the Redondo Varsity Classic last weekend, reaching the semifinals with victories over Long Beach Poly, Long Beach Wilson and Torrey Pines.
After beginning pool play with a loss to eventual champion Beckman, the Dolphins swept Poly, then pulled off the upset of the tournament by stunning Wilson, 21-25, 25-18, 15-9, Friday night to earn the No. 2 seed in Saturday’s Gold Division bracket. After a three-set triumph over Torrey Pines the Dolphins were eliminated by host Redondo Union, 25-20, 25-21.
Earlier in the week Palisades wrapped up Western League play undefeated with three-set victories over University and Fairfax. The Dolphins have won 85 straight league matches dating back to March 26, 2014.
The City Open Division playoffs begin next Wednesday and the Dolphins (31-5-1) host a quarterfinal match. Palisades won the last of its record 16 section titles in 2019. Chatsworth is the defending champion.
