The Palisadian-Post has partnered with locally founded environmental nonprofit Resilient Palisades to deliver a weekly “green tip” to our readers. This week’s tip was written by Sheda Morshed.
Last Saturday, Resilient Palisades held its first-ever Earth Day Festival at Will Rogers State Park, in collaboration with the offices of Mayor Garcetti and Councilmember Mike Bonin. If you attended the family-friendly event, we hope you had a blast with the live music, yoga and meditation, kids’ arts and crafts and family nature hikes, and some of Los Angeles’ most popular vegan food trucks. We also hope you met some new neighbors and gained some valuable tips on how to address the climate and ecological crisis.
As the latest IPCC report warns, “there is a rapidly closing window to secure a liveable and sustainable future for all,” and we have less than a few years to change course. So if you haven’t already, please begin examining your family’s carbon and ecological footprints.
Thanks to all of the environmental organizations, eco-educators, solutions-oriented businesses, vegan food trucks and mindfulness practitioners who took the time to come inspire, educate and empower Angelenos:

Resilient Palisades would also like to give a special shout-out to Palisades resident-extraordinaire Mariam Engel who joined Resilient Palisades via the Earth Day steering committee and provided invaluable support, including writing press releases, connecting with media, finding volunteers and coordinating them during the nine-hour event. And to each and every one of these student (and non-student*) volunteers: You tirelessly and with full dedication made the event run smoothly, from start to finish. We honestly could not have done this without you.

And last but certainly not least, we would like to publicly thank the Shelton Wilder Group for their very generous financial donation to the event, our beloved Kay n’ Dave’s Cantina for feeding all of our volunteers, Adam Blakis for the solar-powered battery and Brooke King for an SOS delivery/pickup of pop-up canopies. This truly was a community coming together to make the day a success.
And to our Resilient Palisades family: As a 100% volunteer-based organization, we sure are making strides. Thank you for showing up on your Saturday to create awareness around all the ways our community can lower their carbon and eco-footprints. Here’s to hoping Angelenos who attended are now reflecting and adopting more responsible behaviors every day.
