Maureen Petropoulos, equestrian instructor and spouse of George Petropoulos for 61 years, passed away peacefully on June 4 due to natural causes.
Maureen (maiden name Cherry) was born on July 9, 1937, in Vancouver and moved to Los Angeles in 1958. She married George Petropoulos in 1960 and three years later moved to Pacific Palisades.
Maureen, a certified riding instructor, taught dressage in Malibu for over 30 years, with stints at Pepperdine University, Malibu Riding and Tennis Club and various private facilities. She was devoted to her students, some of whom worked with her for decades. She was also dedicated to her animals, extending to a passionate support for the rescue of Rottweilers.
A gracious host, with a notable sense of humor, she had a wide circle of friends.
Maureen Petropoulos is survived by her husband, George, her two children, Jonathan and Christina, her step-daughter Renée, Roger White and four granddaughters, Beatrice and Pilar Petropoulos-White, and Astrid and Isabel Petropoulos. She also leaves behind her siblings Trish and David, and the latter’s spouse Sharen—part of her Canadian family, to whom she remained close.
A memorial service later in the summer is being planned.
