Ex-Pali High Pitcher Jed Moscot Receives Honorable Mention on 2020 MVC’s Scholar-Athlete List

Former Palisades High pitcher Jed Moscot, a senior at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, has earned honorable mention on the 2020 Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Scholar-Athlete Team—one of four Braves named to this year’s squad.

Moscot was recognized as an honorable mention MVC Scholar-Athlete in his first year of eligibility after transferring from Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo in 2018. In his first season with the Braves in 2019, the right-hander ranked fourth on the team with 17 appearances in a utility pitching role. He was 4-1 with one save while totaling 50.2 innings pitched and Bradley won each of his four starts one year ago. He led the 2020 staff with four appearances out of the bullpen.

Majoring in history, Moscot qualified for the 2019 MVC Honor Roll as well as the Bradley Athletic Director’s Honor Roll in each of his first three semesters.

Nominees for the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average; must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution; and must have completed at least one full academic year at their school.

Moscot enjoyed his best outing in 2019 when he blanked host Western Illinois on two hits, needing only 59 pitches over six comlete innings on April 9.

Moscot redshirted as a true freshman at UC Davis before transferring to Cuesta for his redshirt freshman and sophomore years. He made 34 career appearances in two seasons at Cuesta, working out of the bullpen in 31 outings and posting a 4-6 record with two saves.

Moscot enjoyed a successful prep career at Palisades. As as senior in 2015 he was named the top pitcher in the Western League and collected All-City First Team honors after going 5-3 with a 0.87 earned run average.

He allowed only two earned runs in his first 28 innings pitched as a senior and by the end of the spring had given up just 34 hits in 64 innings with 86 strikeouts (12.1 per nine innings pitched) and only 12 walks. He made the most of his last high school start on the mound, throwing a one-hitter with nine strikeouts and adding  an RBI single in the Dolphins’ 2-0 Division I wildcard triumph over Sylmar.

Moscot earned All-City Second Team honors as a junior third baseman in 2014, batting .319 and helping Palisades reach the City Division I semifinals at USC.

The son of Elliott and Kathy Moscot, Jed grew up in the Palisades and has two older brothers: Jon and Joshua. Jon pitched at Cuesta and Pepperdine and was chosen in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Cincinnati Reds in 2012. He started eight games on the mound for the Reds in 2015 and 2016 and spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons on the disabled list while trying to recover from Tommy John surgery. He won the Post Cup Award as Pali High’s outstanding senior athlete in 2009 and pitched for Team Israel at the 2019 European Baseball Championship. Josh graduated from UCLA in 2015.
