International Protective Service, Inc. provides security and investigation services to Palisadians who seek it—from residential to commercial and VIP clients.
IPS was founded by New Mexico native Aaron Jones, who had the intent to help others and make a difference.
Jones’ original plan involved musical instruments—he played the piano, trumpet and drums, and wanted to change the world with song—but somewhere along the way, realized that wasn’t going to happen for him.
Instead, Jones found himself in the security field in the early 1990s, working in Los Angeles as a police officer.
“I wanted to do something for the betterment of the world around me and to contribute to society,” Jones said to the Palisadian-Post. “So, I decided to get into the security field and ultimately got into law enforcement.”
Then he made his way back to New Mexico to work as a deputy sheriff and homicide detective before starting IPS in 2006.
IPS can be thought of as a private policing service and leads by responding proactively, especially when law enforcement might not be able to.
“We are a take-action company that can fill the void that law enforcement’s not able to handle,” he explained. “Law enforcement is so busy dealing with major crimes that a lot of times, things fall into the cracks.”
IPS offers home and business patrol services, alarm responses, has a 24-hour dispatch center and more.
Jones added that IPS clients value the peace of mind their services offer, like vacation checks on their homes and responding to calls of service, just like the police do.
“What they really like is that they have somebody that’s coming by specifically looking at their house, looking for anything suspicious or out of the ordinary,” Jones said. “As well as having the authority as their agent to be able to come onto their property and assist them with anything.
“You can contact us and we’ll do anything we can to assist,” Jones continued. “We respond to medical alerts, fire situations, we’ve helped people out of burning houses before.”
IPS has a patrol office located off Pacific Coast Highway and serves the greater Malibu area and its surroundings, from Ventura to West Hollywood, including Pacific Palisades.
Additional services include event security, private investigation by experienced detectives and standing guard service for up to 24 hours.
Clients are allowed to determine the level of force IPS officers may have at the requested site. And all services, except patrol, can be provided by uniformed or “plain-clothes” officers.
To become an IPS officer, candidates undergo a rigorous six-part hiring process, and most of the officers join with years of experience in either the military, law enforcement or private security careers, according to the IPS website.
In regards to security concerns in the Palisades, Jones advised residents with alarm systems to always utilize it and to take advantage of a service like IPS that will prioritize a response to your concerns.
“We are an asset to the law enforcement community, we run a top-notch service,” Jones said.
