The 16th season of Movies in the Park begins on Saturday, August 3, with a screening of “Back to the Future”—the inaugural Arnie Wishnick Community Choice, a new tradition Founder/President David Williams is starting to honor the late beloved community member.
For those unfamiliar with the cult-classic and those who are ready to watch it again, “Back to the Future” is a 1985 sci-fi film about a small-town California teen Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) who is thrown back in the ’50s when an experiment by his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) goes awry.
McFly travels through time in a modified DeLorean car, encountering younger versions of his parents (Crispin Glover and Lea Thompson). He must make sure they fall in love or he’ll cease to exist—and make it back in time to save the life of Doc Brown.
Golden Sparkplug Award-winning Movies in the Park is a nonprofit organization that was founded in August 2003 by Alphabet Streets resident Williams to provide free family fun to the Palisades in the month of August.
This year’s series of movies, which take place every Saturday night this month, is sponsored by the Thesman Family and Pacific Palisades Woman’s Club. Other screenings include “The Wizard of Oz,” “Finding Nemo,” “Incredibles 2” and “Black Panther.”
The movie will start at nightfall, around 8 p.m., on the baseball fields at Palisades Recreation Center. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic basket, blanket and chair.
