More than 75 community members attended the sixth annual Party in the Park the afternoon of July 14 at the Palisades Simon Meadow YMCA Park, an annual event hosted by local nonprofit Present Now, which assists mothers and children living in domestic violence shelters.
As in years past, kids and adults at this year’s Party in the Park donated school supplies for children living in domestic violence shelters.
“The event was a huge success,” Palisadian and Present Now Founder Melanie Neumann shared. “All the kids were running around playing volleyball and cornball and throwing baseballs. We had the biggest turnout we ever had, and we raised a ton of money.”
This year’s sponsors included tween clothing brand Frankie’s on the Park, which hosted a pop-up trunk show, donating a portion of its proceeds from the day and from its monthly online sales to Present Now.
“Everyone was really happy to have them there,” Neumann said.
Kids also enjoyed ice cream sandwiches and popsicles from Ice Cream Occasions, Hawaiian ice from the Kona Ice Truck, pretzels from Let’s Have a Cart Party, and lemonade and cookies from kid-run organization LA Kids Giving Back, which set up a stand at the event and took donations.
At the end of the day, LA Kids Giving Back donated their entire day’s proceeds to Present Now—$2,000 of the several thousand raised that day.
“They gave us all the money they raised that day,” Neumann said. “That was huge. It was really special. We had so much support from the community; we collected hundreds of school supplies. It was a really great day.”
