From the Bluffs to the beaches, from Village cafes to canyon bicycle paths, nearly 300 young people have submitted their artistic views of Pacific Palisades in the great Caruso/Palisadian-Post art competition “Why I love Pacific Palisades.”
On Tuesday, May 16, it took six judges—including Michael Gazzano, vice president development at Caruso and a familiar figure around the Palisades Village project site—two hours to sift through all the extraordinary entries from seven Palisadian schools.
A handful were created vertically, the wrong way around for their final destination—to become a set of panels for the Caruso safety wall on Sunset—and a couple seemed so ambitiously abstract it was tough to see the Palisadian connection.
But they were all amazing.
In the end, 10 pictures emerged out of the maelstrom as exhibiting real skills with brush or crayon, a clear eye and a love of life in the Palisades.
These talented 10 will each receive a $50 gift card to enjoy treats at Sweet Rose Creamery, The Yogurt Shoppe, Toppings Yogurt Bar or Palisades Garden Café.
And their artworks will be displayed on Rick Caruso’s Palisades Village safety wall over the next few weeks and stay up there until next summer when the entire new project is revealed.
But wait—there’s more.
One grand prize winner from the talented ten will be selected by Palisadians: vote for your favorite on palisadesvillageca/artcontest. The winner will be announced in the Post on June 8.
This artist will win a $1,000 donation to their school’s art program and an additional $50 gift card to spend at one of the four eateries.
Yes, it’s going to be a wonderfully colorful summer on Sunset.
