At the end of a seesaw battle that had all the drama and intensity of a playoff game, Jacob Kalt stepped to the plate with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning and lifted a high fly ball into left field, plenty deep for Will Coquillard to tag up and score from third, lifting the Palisades High varsity baseball team to a 9-8 come-from-behind victory over Western League rival Westchester last Thursday at George Robert Field.

The sacrifice fly capped a huge day for the Dolphins’ diminutive infielder, who also doubled to get Palisades on the scoreboard in the first inning after the Comets plated three in the top half.
Westchester ace Adari Lesley was lifted after six innings upon reaching his maximum pitch count, but not before blasting two doubles and a tape-measure home run over the left field fence.
“That’s the longest home run to left I’ve seen in my 10 years here,” Pali High head coach Mike Voelkel said. “He got all of it.”

The Dolphins trailed 8-6 in the seventh when Coquillard laced a triple down the right field line to score Gabe Stewart and Augie Sylk singled in the tying run to force extra innings. Reliever Johnny Dietsch, who has committed to Menlo College, threw three and a third scoreless innings.
The Dolphins lost to Hart 5-0 in a Redondo Tournament game Saturday and host LACES in their Western League finale today.
