Last Tuesday’s nonleague tennis match between Palisades and Westlake went down to the wire, but in the end the visiting Warriors came from behind to win 4-3 at the Palisades Tennis Center.
The Dolphins won three of the four singles pro sets and needed only one more point to clinch victory under the City Section’s head-to-head best-of-seven points format. However, it was Westlake which swept the doubles to complete its comeback.
Caroline Goldberg defeated Westlake’s Katie Tavasoli 8-5 at No. 1 singles, Calypso Peraticos defeated Westlake’s Samantha Noh 8-3 at No. 2 and Sophia Arvin lost to the Warriors’ No. 3 player Anna Adamian 8-5. Taylor Barfield won her pro set 8-2 at No. 4 singles to give the Dolphins a 3-1 lead.
Caroline Ross and Gigi Feingold rallied from 3-6 down to almost force a tiebreaker before falling 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Then, Maddy Goore and Alex Hart lost 8-2 at the No. 2 position and suddenly the Warriors sensed victory.

The outcome was ultimately decided at No. 3 doubles, where Alex Miller and Alicia Abramson (brought uo from JV to play in place of injured Kate Harrington) fell four games behind Westlake’s duo of Anjali Devgan and Jayde Ellis. However, the Palisades pair pulled to within 7-6 and Miller saved a match point at 30-40 before being broken to end the match.
“We lost three close sets and they are stronger than they were last year,” Pali High Coach Bud Kling said. “I’m a little surprised they swept us in doubles.”
Palisades defeated Westlake 14-4 using the Southern Section’s round robin scoring last year in Westlake Village.
On Monday, Palisades blanked visiting Hamilton 7-0 in its Western League opener. The Dolphins didn’t drop a game in three doubles sets.
