Seth Deanda, a 13-year-old golfer from Signal Hill, scored his second lifetime hole-in-one in the annual Buerge/YMCA Charity Golf Tournament at the Malibu Country Club on June 1. Deanda accomplished the feat on the 12th hole, which is 163 yards, using a TaylorMade 4-iron Hybrid club.
Deanda is a member of the Southern California PGA “Junior Tour” program that produced stars like Tiger Woods, John Cook and Mark O’Meara, and his goal is to play on the PGA Tour. He attends Oak Middle School in Los Alamitos and practices regularly at the Recreational Park Golf Course in Long Beach.
Playing in his first-ever Buerge/YMCA event, Deanda shared the experience with his father, Jesse, a 28-year technician for Buerge Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM in West L.A. and a veteran of more than 20 Buerge/YMCA golf tournaments. The elder Deanda has never scored a hole-in-one.
The feat would have earned Deanda a car lease for a Ford Edge, but because he was too young to accept the car lease, the insurance company provided him a check with the same value, worth $13,000.
To protect his amateur status, the Deanda family created a college scholarship fund, and the money was transferred directly into the account to provide school funds for later.
Deanda’s father first took him to the driving range when he was eight years old, and he was instantly hooked on the sport. He said he wanted to quit Little League and focus solely on golf instead. Deanda began taking lessons daily.
