The new Palisades Library Bookstore celebrated its grand opening on Tuesday, July 1. For years, bookworms in Pacific Palisades have been able to purchase books at the Friends of the Palisades Library book sales every eight to 10 weeks.
Now bibliophiles can shop for books three days a week while venturing no further than the library’s patio.

With the success of the book sales and the enormous amount of books regularly donated to the library, opening an on-site bookstore just made sense.
“Books are magic,” said Wendy Edlen of the Pacific Palisades Library Association Board of Directors. “They take you places while you’re reading.”
As for the bookstore itself, Edlen said, “It’s a great place to find a huge variety of titles. The people who donate the books can see them displayed too.”
At the new bookstore, Palisadians will be able to find everything from children’s books to hardcover novels, all half off the book sale prices.
Library Board member Sandy Eddy was instrumental in getting the bookstore up and running, and Corpus Christi School librarian Kathy Slattery helped with the book displays.
The Library Board members also thanked a team of volunteers and credited Laurel Garver, treasurer of the Friends of the Palisades Library, for the idea that set things in motion.
The bookstore is open Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Wednesdays and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the summer with the possibility of more fall hours.
