Jerry Estow, a Pacific Palisades resident from 1971 to 1999, passed away in Northern California on Dec. 28 after a long illness. He was 79.
Jerry was born April 28, 1934, in New York, the son of Polish immigrants. His family relocated to Los Angeles in the late 1930s.
He graduated from UCLA with a degree in Business Administration in 1956 before attending Boalt Hall School of Law at UC Berkeley. Shortly thereafter he embarked on 45-year career in commercial real estate.
While travelling around the world during the summer of 1964, Jerry met his future wife Sandy in a hotel lobby in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Unsure if the attractive woman would understand him, he slowly asked her if she spoke English. Her reply was an unmistakably clear American “Yeah.”
He had gone halfway around the world to meet a woman who lived in an apartment in Silverlake. They were married on New Year’s Eve 1967.
The couple moved to Pacific Palisades in 1971 when their first son Gregory was born. A second son Jeffrey followed in 1972.
After retiring, he and his wife Sandy moved to San Francisco and then to the town of Alameda to be closer to their two sons who had relocated to the Bay Area after attending college.
Curious, magnanimous and outgoing, Jerry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved traveling the world and exploring California. He was a master storyteller and possessed a fantastic sense of humor.
In his rare free time, Jerry enjoyed photography, horseback riding and scouting for the best Asian restaurants in Los Angeles County.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years Sandy Estow of Alameda; son Gregory; daughter-in-law Zoe; grandsons Benjamin and Isaac of Oakland, CA; son Jeffrey; daughter-in-law Kara; grandsons Zachary and Sam of Los Angeles; and numerous nieces and nephews.
