This past March, “I Love Lucy: The Untold Story” played live to an enthusiastic audience at Kehillat Israel. Inspired by the success of the reading, playwright/director Gregg Oppenheimer went back to work and added a second act to his one-act radio play. The result can be seen for one afternoon only on Sunday, October 6 at 3 p.m. at University Synagogue, 11960 Sunset Blvd., in Brentwood.
Performed in the style of a radio play, complete with sound effects, music, and live-on-stage commercial jingles, this show celebrates the golden age of radio and television and the First Lady of television comedy.
The son of “I Love Lucy” creator Jess Oppenheimer, Gregg treasures the legacy of “Lucy.” The play has also been heard on SiriusXM Radio, and has been seen in several other venues on the East and West coasts.
Returning members of the cast include Dick Van Patten, Palisadian William Schallert and Tony Dow, while Nancy Travis will play the role of Lucy for the first time.
The second act, picking up where the first act left off, includes the introduction of Ethel Mertz into the “I Love Lucy” world.
For tickets ($18 in advance, $25 at the door), call (310) 472-1255.
