St. Matthew’s Parish School students, teachers, faculty members and parents celebrated the school’s 63nd anniversary on May 4 by walking from the site of the original church and schoolhouse on Swarthmore and La Cruz, to the school’s present location on Bienveneda Avenue. Head of School Les Frost introduced the annual Founders’ Day Walk four years ago as a special way of commemorating the school’s founding. Although Frost retired last year, the tradition continued this year with Head of School Stu Work. More than 375 people walked, including parents (some of whom brought their dogs). There are 325 students in pre-school through eighth grade, but preschool students do not participate in the walk.   The celebration ended with a school-wide chapel service.
