’The Great Race,’ the 1965 classic directed by Blake Edwards and starring Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis and Natalie Wood, will screen at 1 p.m. in the Palisades Branch Library community room, 861 Alma Real. Free admission.
The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority hosts a moderate two-hour hike, during which participants will learn about animal behavior, habitat and migration patterns, 5:30 p.m. in Temescal Gateway Park,15601 Sunset. Meet at the front parking lot. Parking is $7.
SUNDAY, MARCH 11
Alper’s Young Musicians Big Band, an exciting and talented group of 12-year-olds, will play from 3 to 5 p.m. at Lenny’s Deli, 1130 Swarthmore. The free program includes favorites by Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Henry Mancini, Herbie Hancock, Cannonball Adderley and Elvis.
Maurice Durufl’s ‘Requiem’ and Francis Poulenc’s ‘Organ Concerto,’ will be featured in a 4 p.m. concert at Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Church, 15821 Sunset. Admission is free. Durufl’s serene ‘Requiem’ will feature the Chancel Choir and Orchestra, conducted by James Vail, and vocal soloists Laurel Sanders, mezzo-soprano, and Kevin Dalbey, baritone. The choir will be expanded by guest singers to 40 voices, and the 20-piece orchestra will be joined by organist Frances Nobert.
TUESDAY, MARCH 13
‘Coming Up Roses,’ the annual Pacific Palisades Woman’s Club fashion show and luncheon, will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the clubhouse, 901 Haverford. Fashions will be provided by Vivian’s Boutique on Via de la Paz and BOCA on Swarthmore. There will be a raffle and silent-auction items, with all proceeds benefiting local charities. Monthly meeting of the Santa Monica Canyon Civic Association, 7 p.m. at the Rustic Canyon Recreation Center. The public is invited. ‘A Dog’s Life,’ by Diane Grant, kicks off the third annual Palisades Playwrights Festival, 7:30 p.m. at Pierson Playhouse,’941 Temescal Canyon Rd. There is a suggested $5 donation at the door, and light refreshments will be served.
Chamber Music Palisades presents the Lyris String Quartet and music by Haydn (a quartet for flute and strings), Schocker (‘Child’s Play’ for flute and strings), Shostakovich (String Quartet No. 3) and Richard Strauss (a piano quartet), 8 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Church, 1031 Bienveneda. Tickets at the door: $30. Students free.

Jan Loomis, author of ‘Images of America: Pacific Palisades,’ presents Amateur Moving Making in the 1930s, 6:30 p.m. at the Palisades Branch Library, 861 Alma Real. Presented by the Pacific Palisades Library Association, the free program will also include a special viewing of the 1932 silent film, ‘The Lost Sister.’
