Calvary Christian School’s 17th annual golf tournament took place on Columbus Day at MountainGate Country Club. With a record-breaking number of participants (118 golfers plus 24 tennis players), the event raised about $90,000 and will benefit the school’s Arts and Technology Building, currently under construction. The event co-chairs were Janice Larson and Laura Chung, who both have children attending the school. This year’s tournament field included nine all-women foursomes who, even in their matching fashionable outfits, played a serious game. The winning foursome included Kathy Outcalt, Jackie Hassett, Elsie Sims and Gina Sheldon. The winning all-student foursome featured Andrew Larson, Brandon Pierpoint, Ian Hartford and Jeff Stuart (all 7th graders). Middle-school students from Calvary have golfed in this tournament for the past several years. Ten students participated this year The overall men’s lowest score winners were Mike Van Konynenburg, Mike Brody, Greg Thomas and Robert Peddicord. While no one won the Hole in One cash prize of $10,000, there were plenty of prize and contest winners. Some of the impressive raffle prizes included a 46-inch flat-screen television, SkyCaddie Range Finders, various golf clubs, VIP Premier Level Kings tickets, plenty of wine, and Dom Perignon Champagne. Some golfers even had the chance to receive invaluable pointers from Denis Watson, a professional senior PGA tour player and father of five students at Calvary. ’All in all,’ said co-chair Chung, ‘with the beautiful weather, golf, tennis, food, spirits and friendship, everyone who attended went home a winner.’
