The Palisades High boys lacrosse team lost to Westlake, 12-7, in the opening round of the City Section playoffs last Tuesday, abruptly ending what had been a strong season.
PaliHi (15-6) earned a No. 15 seed and kept things close against No. 2 Westlake, until the Warriors pulled away in the second half. The Dolphins ended their season on a sour note, having been routed by Palos Verdes, 14-4, in their final regular season game.
The senior-heavy Pali team will undergo a lot of turnover next year, with defenseman Chris Groel, midfielder Blake Bryant and attackers Daniel Gurvis and Nick Jaffe among the key players who will graduate. Groel, who led the Dolphins with 83 ground balls for the season, has committed to play at Rutgers University this fall.
Gurvis led PaliHi with 34 goals, while Jaffe led the team with 16 assists. Junior goalkeeper Evan Greene recorded 97 saves in 12 starts.
