“The Year of Magical Thinking,” starring Janis Stevens, a Drama Desk Award nominee, will be presented for two weekends in September at Mount St. Mary’s College’s Doheny campus.
Based on Joan Didion’s memoir of the same name, the play is a stage adaptation of her Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir on the untimely deaths of her husband John Gregory Dunne and their daughter, Quintana Roo.
On stage alone in this one-person play, Stevens captures how Didion managed to persevere in the midst of crushing grief. Stevens, a member of Actors Equity, has performed “The Year of Magical Thinking” for more than a year, garnering praise from coast to coast.
Performances are at 8 p.m. on September 20 and 21 and at 2 p.m. on September 27 and 28.
