The Palisadian-Post has partnered with locally founded environmental organization Resilient Palisades to deliver a “green tip” to our readers in each newspaper throughout the year. Here is the organization’s annual report, compiled by the Resilient Palisades Steering Committee.
It’s been another very busy year for Resilient Palisades. We want to share our accomplishments on behalf of the community—none of which would be possible without the hard work and support of our members.
Our Clean Air and Water: Green Gardens team partnered with local gardeners to reduce the number of gas leaf blowers in the Palisades. In 2023 the team funded and purchased the highest quality commercial gas-free leaf blowers and batteries for 45 Palisades gardeners. This was our single biggest focus area for 2023, spending over $40,000 on new electric blowers for gardeners. Upward of 800 families and their neighbors will be positively impacted by healthier and quieter yard work.
The Clean Energy team’s solar group buying program continued going strong, with more families joining the program and installing solar with one of our handpicked vendors. We’re closing in on 50 Palisadian households going solar with battery storage as a result of our work.
The Vegan Solutions team continued to spread the word about the benefits of plant-based eating. They engaged in outreach at events throughout the year, organized educational Zoom presentations, and regularly dined at local restaurants and advocated for more vegan options in the Palisades.
Our Zero Waste team organized a petition to stop the distribution of unrecyclable plastic shopping bags, helped new recycling service Ridwell launch in the Palisades, conducted outreach in the community, and continued our compost education and collection program. We continued to offer reusable cutlery on a free loan system to anyone in our community who wants to avoid using plastic for parties and events.

The Green Banking team created a helpful web page and interactive tool to help members transition to greener banks, joined a local protest and held a number of online meetings to work with members to assist them in transitioning to greener banks.
Our newest team, Water Sages, kicked off with a three-part online educational series on drought-tolerant landscapes, followed by a presentation on graywater. Water Sages also received and implemented a grant from LAWaterkeeper to promote a localized environmental app, Dashboard Earth. The team also conducted regular in-person outreach on native plants and water saving strategies.
Across the organization, Resilient Palisades organized and participated in numerous local events, including our annual Earth Day celebration, climate demonstration with Palisades Charter High School students, 4th of July parade, and vegan-and-zero-waste potluck.
Finally, we continued to publish our regular Green Tip column in the Palisadian-Post, and conducted outreach and education in person, through our newsletter and with a growing social media presence.
All this work comes from your friends and neighbors—volunteers, like us. Because many of the campaigns and initiatives involve expenses, Resilient Palisades welcomes donations from community members.
If you’re inclined to support us this holiday season, RP is a 501(c)(3) organization and donations are tax-deductible. Upon receipt of a donation, we will email a gift receipt for your 2023 taxes.
So please consider an end-of-year donation to Resilient Palisades. You can do it online at resilientpalisades.org/donate-now in less time than it’s taken you to read this summary. Or if you’d prefer to mail a check, you can send it to: Resilient Palisades, 643 Muskingum Avenue, Pacific Palisades, CA 90272. (Please be sure to include your email so we can send you a gift receipt.)
