After an impressive week of practice while competing for the backup spot at Pomona-Pitzer, Taylor Mensik, the starting quarterback at Palisades High last season, severely dislocated his right elbow and will be out for the season. He’ll be granted an NCAA Division III medical redshirt designation and will thus have four seasons of eligibility remaining.
Mensik was a captain and first team All-Western League selection for the Dolphins last fall, throwing for 1,068 yards and eight touchdowns and running for seven scores.
Another former Pali High player, Nick Lunn, the 2013 Western League Lineman of the Year and an All-City selection, is now the backup right guard at Occidental College.
Carlos Herrera, another of Pali High’s team captains last year, is now the backup left tackle at Cal Lutheran.
