Dozens of decorated bikes and razors were judged in front of Palisades Elementary before the Fourth of July parade.
The Yogurt Shoppe, which sponsored the Kids on Bike entry in the parade awarded first place to Julie Kassin, 6, who attends Marquez School. Second went to the Huang family: parents Albert and Catherine; seven-year-old Owen, who attends Mirman School; and five-year-old Cara, who will start Marquez in the fall. Third was Gavin Alexander, 6, who attends Palisades Elementary.
First prize was $100 gift certificate to the yogurt store, second was a $50 certificate and third was a $25 certificate.
“We sure had a blast supporting PAPA for our third year,” said Yogurt Shoppe owner Kevin Sabin, who noted that many kids showed up at the start of the parade with decorated bikes after the judging had already taken place. “Many were incredible! One of the bikes that certainly stood out was Ava Croxall, 9, who will be a fourth grader at Thomas Dye.  She spent a week decorating her bike and did not know that we were judging at 1:30 p.m. We are giving her a cap and a $15 gift card.”
Additionally, the Yogurt Shoppe Happy Hour recipient for June 23 to July 6 was PAPA (Palisades Americanism Parade Association), which will receive $265. The Yogurt Shoppe has now donated $25,231 to community organizations,” Sabin said, “We also have open dates for the next school year, so if anyone would like to participate, they should contact us at the shop or by e-mail happyhour@theyogurtshoppe.com.”
