Having closed the regular season strong with three victories at the Ayala Tournament the Palisades High girls water polo team can now set its sights on the ultimate prize: the City Section championship.
On Monday the Dolphins cruised to a 14-2 win at league rival LACES and earned a home game in the first round of the 16-team City playoff bracket and, if victorious, will host a quarterfinal Wednesday at Maggie Gilbert Aquatic Center.
Palisades is seeking its third title and second in a row, having ousted Birmingham 13-10 in last winter’s final on its way to a runner-up finish in the SoCal Regional Division III tournament. The Dolphins captured their first City title in 2019, beating Birmingham 13-8 in the finals. The Patriots regained the crown after a 17-16 triumph over Palisades in the 2020 final and the coronavirus pandemic forced the City playoffs to be canceled in 2021.
The semifinals are on Valentine’s Day (higher seeds host) and the City championship game is Thursday, Feb. 16 at Valley College at 6 p.m.
