All season long the Palisades High baseball team has come up with big hits in key situations and it happened once again Saturday at George Robert Field.
With two outs and one runner on in a scoreless game in the bottom of the seventh inning, Cord Vanley singled with two strikes to score Conrad Smith for the only run as the Dolphins edged Carson 1-0 in the Tiger Classic.
It was Palisades’ eighth win in a row and over that span it has outscored the opposition 55-10. The Dolphins have not tasted defeat since a 4-3 loss at San Pedro on Feb. 25—Palisades only loss to a City Section opponent this year.
Senior Lucas Braun enjoyed yet another stellar outing on the mound, pitching a complete game two-hitter with 13 strikeouts.
Two days earlier, Palisades completed a two-game sweep of Western League rival University with a 12-2 victory in five innings.
Palisades is off to its best start in 12 seasons under Coach Mike Voelkel and is on track to earn its second straight City Section Open Division playoff berth.
The reigning league champion Dolphins looked to keep their winning streak going on Tuesday against LACES and host the Unicorns again tonight at 6. They resume Tiger Classic action Saturday at 11 a.m. at San Fernando and next Saturday at 7 p.m. at Banning High in Wilmington.
