After a grueling cross country season, Palisadian mom and distance runner Gwendolen Twist intended to take a break from training to recover both physically and mentally, but alas duty called and she is never one to back away from a challenge.
Her Janes Elite Racing team needed a third runner for the XC National Championships on Saturday in San Diego and Twist battled to the wire, placing sixth in the Masters Division in a photo finish to help the Janes take first place in the 40s and 50s division. The Pali High track/cross country coach was all smiles on the podium with teammates Tania Fischer and Calene Morris and they celebrated with churros.
