Terry Burt of Pacific Palisades, owner of Cox Paint, died on Friday, November 2. He was 75 years old.
Terry was born September 11, 1943, to William and Mary Ann Burt in Port Arthur, Texas. At age 2 his family moved back to their hometown of Topeka, Kansas, where they stayed the next 10 years before moving to Long Beach.
Terry graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic in 1961 and went on to graduate with a bachelor and a master’s degree in art, and a teaching credential from CSU Fullerton.
Terry met and married Nita Logan in 1966. They had a son, Jason, in 1971. In 1976 they spent 10 months in Europe while Terry applied for teaching jobs.
Not securing a suitable position, they returned to the States on the Polish Ocean liner and ended up in Crested Butte, Colorado, where Terry had some friends, and where he taught at Western State College in Gunnison.
Preferring sunshine to severe winters, Terry Jumped at the offer his father made for him to join their business, Cox Paint in Santa Monica. When his father retired, Terry took over and found he liked being a small business owner.
Terry is survived by his wife, Nita, his son, Jason, daughter-in-law, Enna, and grandson, Oscar. There will be a memorial held Dec. 9.
Terry will be sorely missed.
