Eleven-year-old competitive surfer Jake Chandler will compete among some of his sport’s top young athletes this month at the Surfing America 2017 USA Surfing Championships.
Getting the invitation to such an exclusive competition is one of Chandler’s greatest achievements in a young career that’s already featured top-three finishes in other major tournaments.
Chandler, a Highlands resident who attends Seven Arrows School, has been surfing since before he was 5 years old—“He would crawl into the ocean,” his mother Courtney shared with a laugh.
His next big event will be held at Lower Trestles, San Onofre State beach from June 19-22.
Chandler will hone his craft and represent Pacific Palisades at similar events all summer long.
