Former Palisades High volleyball players Randy Stoklos and Kent Steffes are among the 44 athletes who are to be inducted into the Los Angeles City Section’s Hall of Fame in 2015. The induction ceremony will be held April 26 at the Doubletree by Hilton in Culver City.
Stoklos (Class of ‘78) won 123 beach tournaments, including a U.S. championship and five world titles with fellow Palisadian Sinjin Smith. The first beach player to surpass $1 million in career earnings, Stoklos won the Manhattan Beach Open four times. After Palisades he played indoors at UCLA. He was inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2008 and his son Shane currently plays indoor and beach volleyball at Pali High.
Steffes (Class of ‘86) was named National Player of the Year as a middle blocker after leading the Dolphins to an undefeated record and the state title his senior season at Pali High, where he also played forward on the basketball team. Steffes became the youngest beach player to earn over $1 million in prize money and won the gold medal in beach volleyball with Karch Kiraly at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. He graduated from UCLA in 1993.
