Having fallen short in its quest for a third straight City Open Division title, the Palisades High girls basketball team is focused on the state tournament. Two seasons ago, the Dolphins settled for the SoCal Regional Division II crown when state finals got canceled because of the coronavirus outbreak.
On Sunday, Palisades was seeded No. 4 in the Division III bracket and the Dolphins hosted No. 13 Hanford Sierra Pacific in the first round. If victorious, Palisades will host a quarterfinal game tonight.
After making the Open Division playoffs for the first time, Palisades’ boys also earned a state berth. Seeded No. 9 in Div. III, they traveled to No. 8 Downey St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy, the SS Division 3A runner-up, in the first round. The teams last met in the 2020 Division IV regional semifinals and the Dolphins won, 49-45. If victorious, Palisades will go to No. 1 Rancho Verde or host No. 16 Van Nuys Grant today.
