Pali High Baseball Sweeps Comets to Stay Unbeaten in League

After seeing its 11-game winning streak snapped by Banning, the Palisades High baseball team sought to start a new winning streak last week against Western League rival Westchester.
That’s just what the Dolphins did, beating the Comets 8-2 on the road last Tuesday and completing the two-game sweep with an 11-0 shutout in five innings last Thursday at George Robert Field.
Palisades improved to 17-3 overall and 6-0 in league contests heading into this week’s San Diego Lions Tournament after using a nine-run second inning to notch its 13th victory in 14 games behind a dominating performance by Will Coquillard, who had 11 strikeouts and allowed just two hits Thursday. Head coach Mike Voelkel is happy to have the senior right-hander back in the rotation, giving the Dolphins perhaps the most formidable pitching staff in the City Section.
Palisades sent 14 batters to the plate in the second inning. Jared Brecher, Coquillard and Conrad Smith all singled to load the bases with no outs. Julian Jacobson was hit by a pitch, Kent Johnson and Jake Nadley walked, Cord Vanley hit an RBI single, Lucas Braun hit a sacrifice fly, Kyle Grassl had a two-RBI single, Smith hit an RBI single and another run scored on a throwing error.
