To start the 2018-19 Pepperdine University Center for the Arts season will be a performance by Jimmy Webb and Ashley Campbell—best friend and daughter of the late Glen Campbell—on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m.
Ashley, a graduate of Pepperdine, will open the show with songs from her debut album “The Lonely One,” which are inspired by her personal experiences, including the influence of her late father.
Grammy Award-winning songwriter Webb is best known for writing hits including “Wichita Lineman,” “MacArthur Park” and “Highwayman.” In fact, Webb is the only artist ever to have received Grammys for music, lyrics and orchestration.
The singer and pianist’s performance will include behind-the-scenes stories.
Webb’s career spans five decades—which includes writing platinum-selling songs for numerous artists. But his most meaningful partnership was reportedly with Glen.
Ashley and Webb will then perform songs together from the Webb/Campbell songbook.
“The world lost an icon with the 2017 passing of Glen Campbell as a result of Alzheimer’s disease,” Pepperdine shared in a statement.
The performance, which is sponsored by the Office of Andrew K. Benton, president of Pepperdine, will take place on campus in Smothers Theatre, located at 24255 Pacific Coast Highway. Tickets are $22 to $50.
The next shows scheduled to take place at Pepperdine include Fei-Fei, Sammy Miller and the Congregation, and Chinese Warriors of Peking.
