Saint John’s Health Center will present a free community education forum, “Your Health and Life—Perspectives, Decisions and Conversation on End of Life Care, Advance Directives and Palliative Care,” on Tuesday, April 16, from 2 to 4 p.m., and repeated on April 17, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Santa Monica Public Library Auditorium.
The forum, which coincides with National Healthcare Decisions Day on April 16, is free, but reservations are required. Call (310) 829-8453.
Lectures and speakers at both forums include “Palliative Care, Comfort Care or Hospice—The Right Care at the Right Time” by Dr. Brian Madden; “The Gift of ‘Five Wishes’ Advance Directive” by Cynthia Lane, RN; and “The POLST—Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment” by Dr. Paul Schneider.
The Tuesday program will include a lecture by Dr. Russ Kino, “End of Life Medical Care—An Emergency Room Physician’s Perspective,” and on Wednesday evening Dr. Jonathan Weaver will speak on “End of Life Medical Care—A Physician’s Perspective.”
National Healthcare Decisions Day is celebrated every April 16. Last year more than 40,000 members of the general public received direct information about advance directives/advance care planning.
