The Palisades High girls tennis team opened the season with a 4-2 victory over Marymount on Tuesday afternoon at the Palisades Recreation Center.
Caroline Goldberg defeated Lia Capellari 6-1 at No. 1, Calypso Peraticos beat Caroline Zisette 6-0 at No. 2 and Sophia Arvin defeated Andrea Crummy 6-2 at the No. 3 spot to give the Dolphins a clean sweep of the singles sets in the straight-up scoring format.
In doubles, Caroline Ross paired with Gigi Feingold to win 6-3 at No. 1 but the Dolphins’ other two tandems of Kate Harrington/Alex Miller and Madeline Goore/Taylor Barfield both lost 6-3.
“We played a tournament together in the summer, so Gigi and I are familiar with each other,” Ross said. “I play the deuce court and she plays the ad court. Our strategy was to be consistent, take the net away and hit crosscourt whenever we could.”
Palisades faces Brentwood today at 2:30. The varsity match is at Brentwood, JV is at the Rec Center.
“We only lost three games in singles and girls were playing higher in doubles,” Pali High Coach Bud Kling said. “I’ll solidify our doubles lineup as we go.”
