After leading all Division 2 qualifiers at the CIF Southern Section preliminaries with a time of 14:55, Palisadian Charlie Sherman placed sixth in the finals Saturday in Riverside.
The Loyola High senior led with one mile to go before being overtaken by Steven Khan of Ayala, who won in 14:48.2. Sherman ran the three-mile course in 14:59.3 and led the Cubs to fourth place in the team standings. On the Fourth of July, Sherman won the Palisades-Will Rogers 5K.
Also excelling at the Southern Section finals was Brentwood School senior James Kahn, who was 28th overall in the Division 5 race in 16:06.4. Evan Pattinelli of Flintridge Prep took first place in 15:10.8.
Kahn finished first at prelims and was the Eagles’ top placer on Saturday. Both Sherman and Kahn qualified for the state finals Saturday in Fresno.
