Nominees for the 95th Academy Awards, which will honor films released in 2022 and include several ties to Palisadians, were announced on Monday, January 23.
Palisadian Jamie Lee Curtis has been nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” a category that includes Angela Bassett in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Hong Chau in “The Whale,” Kerry Condon in “The Banshees of Inisherin” and Stephanie Hsu in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” as well.
Though the actress has been nominated and received dozens of awards and accolades for previous performances, this marks her first Oscar nomination.
“I can only go by my own reaction and the reaction of my film family, personal family and family of friends who were so happy for my inclusion as a nominee,” Curtis wrote in a post on Instagram. “I’m sure my fellow nominees are surrounded with that same level of love and pride and wonder and excitement, and I am thrilled to stand shoulder to shoulder with all of them as representatives of our individual work in this community of work that we all have the privilege to participate in.”
Riviera resident Steven Spielberg was nominated for Best Directing for “The Fabelmans,” with Martin McDonagh for “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert for “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” Todd Field for “Tár,” and Ruben Östlund for “Triangle of Sadness” also receiving nominations.
Spielberg was also nominated for Best Writing (Original Screenplay) for the film, alongside writers of “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “Tár” and “Triangle of Sadness.”
When it comes to “Elvis,” produced by Palisadian Gail Berman, the film was nominated for several awards, including Austin Butler for Best Actor in a Leading Role, Catherine Martin for Best Costume Design, Matt Villa and Jonathan Redmond for Best Film Editing, and Mark Coulier, Jason Baird and Aldo Signoretti for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
Berman (“Elvis”) and Spielberg (“The Fabelmans”) are both nominated in the Best Picture category for their work producing, alongside producers of “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “Tár,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Triangle of Sadness” and “Women Talking.”
Those who want to cheer their neighbors on—as well as the other nominees—can tune into the Oscars, which will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel on Sunday, March 12, from 5 to 8 p.m.
