Longtime Palisadian Adam Sandler’s Netflix movie, “Uncut Gems,” was released in theaters nationwide on Christmas Day 2019. Next up is a worldwide release, excluding America, on Netflix on January 31.
There has been a lot of hype surrounding Sandler’s latest film, including Oscar buzz and top scores on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film even received a shout out from Pete Davidson, the youngest cast member of “Saturday Night Live,” saying: “See ‘Uncut Gems,’ Adam Sandler’s the man.”
The tension-filled movie, set in the Diamond District of New York City, is about a jeweler that makes a high-stakes bet, while balancing business, family and adversaries on all sides.
The film is directed by brothers Benny and Josh Safdie.
“They created their own complete world—as they usually do—within a real world, that of the Diamond District in New York,” according to Yorgos Lanthimos quoted in Indiewire.
The film is A24’s highest specialty office opener in its debut weekend, before heading into its nationwide Christmas opening.
Sanders appeared on “Ellen,” along with his wife in the audience, and gave her credit for prompting him to take on the lead role, which could land him an Oscar nomination. The couple has lived in Pacific Palisades for 15 years.
Cast members include Idina Menzel, Kevin Garnett, Julia Fox, Judd Hirsch, Lakeith Stanfield, Eric Bogosian and Canadian singer The Weeknd, who plays himself in the movie.
