Ruth Cherniak, who was a wonderful mother with a heart full of pure love, died unexpectedly in her bedroom at home on June 24, 2016, in the arms of her loving son Rick Brissen.
She brought up four children all by herself after an early divorce. She worked her whole life and loved her jobs.
First she was a secretary for the U.S. Navy in Philadelphia, PA and later on at SCI-ARC architecture school where she was a receptionist for many years. Then she was a receptionist at Coldwell Banker Real Estate’s offices in Pacific Palisades and Santa Monica for over 20 years.
She loved to read hard cover books and enjoyed watching TV shows on KCET.
She was a grandmother to Daisy Cruise, Nancie Cruise, Harry Thornton and Willie Thornton.
And a great-grandmother to Mia Thornton.
Ruth, who was a resident of the Palisades since 1967, is survived by her children Rick Brissen, Elisabeth Cherniak, Teddi Cruise and Pietra Thornton.
Everyone Mom met was touched by her kindness.
Ruth was born on August 12,1932 in Philadelphia, PA. and moved to Pennsauken, New Jersey as a child. Her mother was Pearl Hurwitz and Father was Ted Hurwitz.
Ted owned a grocery store with his father in the 1930s and ’40s. Pearl was a secretary after he died.
Words cannot express our deep sadness and loss of our mother.
There will never be anyone as good and kind.
Thank you Mom for giving us a great life. We miss you so much!
