Rolf Roth, 93, passed away in his Pacific Palisades home on Wednesday, August 31.
Born on July 24, 1929, to Margarita Roth and Paul Roth, Rolf was born and raised in Bern, Switzerland. At the age of 18, he joined the Swiss Cavalry in honor of his father and served for two years. In his 20s, he moved to the United States and maintained dual citizenship for many years before establishing himself solely in the States.
Rolf studied architecture at university in Zurich, Switzerland, and went on to have an eventful career in the industry. Some of his greatest accomplishments include designing the Six Flags Over Texas in Dallas, the Warner Bros Movie World Theme Parks in Germany and Australia, and helping to move and rebuild the London Bridge in its current location in Lake Havasu. He also enjoyed designing and remodeling his friends’ homes and built numerous shopping centers.
A man of many interests, Rolf was fond of racing cars and was quite successful in competitive races. Even after his racing and architecture days ended, Rolf’s interest in cars and designing never wavered, and he collected car model kits and built rail transport modeling systems in his home office over the years. He and his wife Judy loved to travel, and split their time between Switzerland and the States for many years. An avid skier, he could be found skiing black diamonds in the alps at the age of 80.
Rolf was predeceased by his son, Rico Roth, in 2019, and his daughter, Tina Roth, in 2020. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy Roth, his daughter, Tracy Roman, her husband, Steve Roman, his son-in-law, Chris Reinsch, and his six grandchildren: Kristina Roman, Nicholas Roman, Wyatt Roman, Christopher Reinsch, Shelby Reinsch, and Kyle Reinsch.
Family and friends are invited to attend memorial services on Saturday, September 17, at 1 p.m. at the Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Church.
