Pali High Baseball Drops Two of Three at Lions Tournament

Eager to test itself against strong competition, Palisades High’s baseball team made its annual trip south to the San Diego Lions Tournament last week and finished 1-2 in the Premier Division.
In Monday’s first game versus Otay Ranch the Dolphins trailed 9-4 in the fourth inning before roaring back to prevail 12-11. Palisades used seven pitchers with left-hander Miles Kirschner picking up the win. Cord Vanley had three hits—one a double—with three runs scored and Lucas Braun and Kyle Grassl each added a double and a single.
Braun pitched a gem the next day but the Dolphins fell to Vista Grande of Arizona 3-0. Braun had one of Palisades’ two hits and carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning. He pitched all seven innings and finished with nine strikeouts.
In the third game Wednesday Palisades lost to Madison 14-4 in six innings. Julian Jacobson had two hits and Grassl, Braun, Vanley, Jake Nadley, Jared Brecher, and Will Coquillard all added one.
Palisades routed league rival Fairfax 17-0 on Tuesday and face the Lions again today at Fairfax.
