The specialty stationery and candy store, Pulp & Hide, vacated their storefront at 865 Via De La Paz in the Palisades seemingly overnight on October 31. The store defected to Brentwood, yet another business casualty to Palisades Village. Pulp & Hide was best known for custom invitations created by binders full of special paper, lettering and format styles. The store has been owned by the Fernbacher family for 35 years and has moved back and forth between Brentwood and Pacific Palisades over the years.
The commercial/industrial use building at 865 Via De La Paz that housed the former space of Pulp & Hide was last sold in 1997 for $1.2 million. The total assessed value of the unit, as of 2012, fell to $778,000, a 65 percent drop.
