The following interview by Editor Bill Bruns with Katy Kreitler, a veteran agent with Prudential California Realty, continues our series of monthly question-and-answer columns with leading realtors in Pacific Palisades.
BRUNS: I understand that you had an interesting set of grandparents in the Bay Area?
KREITLER: Jean Witter, my grandfather on my mother’s side, grew up in Berkeley with his three brothers and a sister. He followed in the footsteps of his 5-year-older first cousin, Dean Witter, and attended UC Berkeley. After college he wore out his leather shoes walking the streets, selling his wares—stocks and bonds. He and Dean founded Dean Witter and Company in 1924. It was a family business with my grandfather’s three brothers and Dean’s two brothers all becoming members of the firm. Many years later I smiled too as I walked door-to-door in the 1980s introducing myself to prospective real estate clients.
