The suspect was hiding in the home.
Police caught an alleged burglar Saturday morning inside a home in the 600 block of Alma Real Drive, according to Los Angeles Police Department officials. “We got the call around 12:45 a.m. last night,” said Sgt. Gary Levy of the LAPD. “The call came in as an audible, a burglar alarm.” LAPD officers set up a perimeter around the home and tried to determine whether a Special Weapons and Tactics Team would be needed, Levy said. Neighbors witnessed around 15 to 18 patrol cars in the area. Since police had no positive indication that the suspect was armed, patrol officers and a K-9 unit entered the home, Levy said. However, “they weren’t going in there with the idea that he wasn’t armed,”he said. Neighbors said police checked with surrounding residents to make sure that the home was not occupied. There was only one suspect inside. The suspect was “non-compliant and refused to exit,” Levy said. The burglar was hiding in the home, he said. A neighbor described the man as being physically aggressive. Police placed the suspect in custody at around 3 a.m., according to eyewitness accounts. The suspect was strapped to a gurney and was taken away via ambulance. Patrol vehicles were still in the area at around 6:30 a.m. Saturday.
