Philip M. Wexler, age 78 (born Dec. 1, 1938), long-time resident of Pacific Palisades, passed away after a two-year battle with a debilitating illness. Phil had the warmest, most welcoming smile and ready laugh. His smile and laughter brightened the life of everyone he met.
Phil and Ona were married for 53 years. Family was most important to him he adored his two sons, Andy (Jen) Wexler and Ross (Jennifer) Wexler. He was an attentive and loving grandfather to his many grandchildren.
Phil and his wife are very philanthropic with many organizations, and have given of their time and money. His favorite charity was The Optimists Youth Home and Family Services. Both he and his wife Ona were very active. He was on the advisory board for many years, and spearheaded with his wife a fundraising effort to build a Youth Learning Center on their Figueroa Campus. It was a successful campaign and the lobby is named The Wexler Lobby.
Phil worked for Chase Manhattan in New York and then for Union Bank in California for 35 years where he rose to executive vice president. He was an asset to the bank and well respected for his skills in long range planning.
The Wexlers lived on the East Coast for 10 years then moved to Pacific Palisades in 1973. For 17 years after they retired, they spent half the year in Pacific Palisades and half in their home in Palm Desert. They sold their Palisades home a few months ago and their primary residence was their desert home. Indian Ridge was their Shangri-La and they consider themselves so lucky to have found a community that is so vibrant, friendly and where they made so many dear friends. Phil constantly commented on how much he loved his life.
