Westside Ballet of Santa Monica’s annual spring performance will be presented at The Broad Stage at Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center on Saturday, May 9.
The program opens with Spring Waters, a fiery pas-de-deux set to music by Sergei Rachmaninoff with choreography by Asaf Messerer. Visiting guest artist former Palisadian Lyrica Blankfein and resident guest artist Evan Swenson will perform Spring Waters.
Blankfein will also dance as a soloist in My One and Only, one of several excerpts from Balanchine’s Who Cares?, followed by Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux, a ballet made by New York City Ballet co-founder George Balanchine.
To conclude the program, Westside Ballet will premiere David Lichine’s comedic one-act ballet, Graduation Ball, to commemorate its 75th anniversary.
Shelby Tzung, who attends Paul Revere Middle School, is dancing in Tchaikovsky’s Pas de Deux and in Graduation Ball. She is going to the prestigious School of American Ballet this summer on full scholarship.
Performances are at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on May 9. Tickets can be purchased at www.westsideballet.com.
