Three Palisadians were among the field of 26,632 runners who finished the 123rd Boston Marathon on April 15 in Massachusetts.
Originally from Boston, Ken Rideout returned to his hometown to complete the famous 26.2-mile course in two hours, 35 minutes and 43 seconds—good enough for eighth place in his age group and 222nd overall.
A 47-year-old now residing in the Highlands, Rideout ran a 5:57 pace. He was third in the Palisades Will Rogers 10K on the Fourth of July and won the Palisades Turkey Trot 10K for the second straight year on Thanksgiving.
Richard Robinson, 63, came in 266th in the men’s 60-64 age group in 3:48:33.
Jill Fischer, 57, is a local long distance runner whose resume includes the Palisades Will Rogers 5/10K, Los Angeles Marathon and many area 5K and 10K races. She ran this year’s Boston Marathon in 3:58:50, bettering her time in 2016. She was 206th in her age division.
Lawrence Cherono of Kenya was the men’s champion in 2:07:57, beating two-time winner Lelisa Desisa from Ethiopia.
Worknesh Degefa of Ethiopia was the women’s champion, taking the lead on the fourth mile and crossing the finish line in 2:23:31.
